I narrowed down my search down to computer science schools on CollegeBoard.com. I haven’t heard of any of these colleges.

I recently found out about Avahi, Linux’s answer to Zeroconf/Bonjour, and it’s interoperable with those services. It’s terribly cool and I’d love to see it adopted on more WiFi networks.
Service discovery applet
Somebody wrote a services discovery applet for GNOME, pictured above. It gives you bubble notifications when services appear on the network.

I posted my static service (one that’s always available when your computer is running) for my Apache server as an example. Place it in the /etc/avahi/services/ directory for fun and profit. There’s a good explanation of the format used in the man page.

I moved my photos to Flickr, mostly because I’m miffed with LiveJournal for introducing the free-but-with-ads version of an account about a week after all of my gallery was purged due to non-renewal. Such is life.

I intend to take another roll, at least, before we send my Nikon F off to my sister to exchange for her newer Nikon F55, as my dad has to fix its shutter. I’m really attached to my no-electronics F, though. Plus, it takes great pictures. A built-in light meter will be nice, though.

These days I’m trying to stay afloat and sane. Last day of our exit exam testing, which is a misnomer, as they give it for the first time during sophomore year. I can’t imagine failing it three times — South Carolina’s education system is just so watered-down. Presumably I can’t give you any examples at risk of prosecution for violating test security, but I’d like to see them try to sue me.

This means we get to miss our first three, and in some cases, four, classes — I like my first period programming class, but other than that I’m really not missing them at all.

Seeing about summer internship. Can’t say any more about that.

Starting to swim on the weekends — rather nice weather recently, so it has been cold but still fun.

Apparently Estie’s mom doesn’t hate something for once. This, in itself, is amazing.

Hanging with Rohail and Elspeth this weekend. Should be fun.

There’s a lot worse things than teenagers having sex, namely, teenagers NOT having sex. Here’s something you’ll never hear: “That suicide bomber blew himself up because he was having too much sex. Sex, sex, sex, non-stop. All that crazy Arab Pakistani ever had was sex, and look what happened.”

Possible internship. This is quite exciting.
